The Italian Job

cacioepepe

Surprise! I’m moving to Italy for two months to be an English tutor.

Shocked? Understandable. But this huge move is one I’ve been contemplating for a few years, believe it or not. I love the Italian culture, language and I guess the food, and I know I’d have serious regrets if I never got around to doing this. My stars aligned and the timing seemed right… So I’m doing it!

I’m going to be a “Conversation Coach” for a host family in Italy’s Calabria region – waaay down south at the tip of the boot. I’ll tutor them during the week for a few hours every day. In exchange, they’ll provide me with meals, a room in their home, and the chance to immerse myself completely in another culture. The family seems wonderful, and have even offered to show me around the region on the weekends. Italian excursions? K.

I’m off tomorrow, bright and early, and will be back before my birthday. If you want to keep up with what’s going on while I’m in Italy, you can follow along here!

  1. Cara Alex, your Italian was pretty good even if you only took a semester of it, so I believe your experience will be a total success. Enjoy your stay and visit as many places as you can. For sure from Calabria go to Sicily and visit Taormina, Siracusa, Erice. But to be sure you get the best. here is a link for you: http://www.bestofsicily.com/top12.htm ciao!
